500 North Michigan Avenue
Service Glass Company knows the true benefits of working with a single-source supplier when it comes to re-glazing a large building.
500 North Michigan Avenue sits in the heart of Chicago’s busy business district. This 23-story building consists of 1144 openings that needed to be re-glazed. Service Glass Company turned to Tremco’s design engineering team in Ashland, Ohio for its expertise and custom design consultation to develop a more suitable gasket than the existing 20-year-old, PVC gasket. Tremco Design Engineer Peter Poirier recommended changing to EPDM and increasing the thickness of the bulb. On the exterior side of the window system, POLYshim® II Tape was used followed by a Spectrem® 2 cap bead application to complete the system.
According to Tom O’Keefe of Service Glass Co., working with Tremco to provide a custom gasket, glazing tape, and silicone made a single source warranty possible. This was beneficial to all parties involved.
