Blanton Museum of Art
The Blanton Museum of Art opened its new Michener Gallery building to the public on April 30, 2007. The Michener Gallery, a 124,000-square foot facility, is a state-of-the-art space for permanent and temporary exhibitions, teaching, research, and public programs. The outer façade of the building is constructed of Texas limestone and granite panels.
The facility owner wanted a product that would ensure performance for the long term. Only silicone sealants are warranted for 20 years, but traditional silicones are prone to dirt pickup and staining. In addition, the job needed to be done quickly, and the granite area that needed to be caulked was not enough linear footage to justify the minimum requirements for a custom color.
Chamberlin Ltd. selected Spectrem 3 Silicone Sealant and Spectrem 4-TS Field-Tintable Silicone Sealant because they not only would be able to provide the performance required for the long-term but also because they were able to select from a vast array of Color Paks to tint on-site, which would expedite the job and be cost-effective.
Both Spectrem 3 and Spectrem 4-TS are formulated with Tremco’s patented Advanced Silicone Technology (AST), exhibiting ultraviolet- and weather-resistance, uncompromising adhesion, unsurpassed dirt-resistance, and virtually no staining. With 30,000 linear feet of joints abutting the limestone and granite, these silicone sealants were the perfect solution to ensure a clean, unspoiled appearance for years to come, without ongoing and costly maintenance.
