V.O.C. Information

Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.s) are found in everything from paints and coatings to nail polish and the wax we use to polish our cars. Many of the organic chemicals we use do not occur in nature but were synthesized by chemists in laboratories and flash off or produce vapors readily when exposed to the air. Volatile organic compounds are typically derived from petroleum and include benzene, toluene and xylene as well as most other hydrocarbons.

Studies have shown, however, that V.O.C.s are a major contributing factor to ozone, a common air pollutant which has been proven to be a public health hazard. Breathing air with ozone concentrations above air quality standards aggravates symptoms of people with respiratory illness and seems to increase rates of asthma attacks. Ozone is also a major contributor to smog and the “greenhouse effect”.

By minimizing the V.O.C.s we use in our products, we can help to protect the health and well-being of all of us and the earth on which we live.
