Policy Development

Government and regulatory bodies must provide adequate regulations and enforce those regulations in order to ensure appropriate basic standards are in place to protect our environment. Policies and strategies implemented should also encourage corporate America to do more. Some companies go beyond legal requirements and their commitment to sustainability is fostering innovation and product development which will achieve the social, environmental and economic balance necessary to help drive our world while protecting it. Active involvement with key groups, sharing of information and collaboration will be critical as new standards and practices are developed.

  • CARB - Involvement with CARB is beneficial to help better define and set policy and definitions for regulations

  • Air Barrier Codes - Meetings are being actively pursued to evaluate the benefits of codification of air barriers in areas aggressively seeking means to reduce energy consumption i.e. the State of California and Washington, D.C.

  • ASHRAE, AAMA, & ASTM - Active involvement in organizations setting industry standards and practices for sustainable design is mandatory to assist in their development as well as their adoption.

  • USGBC - Review and comment on new LEED versions is also at the heart of any sustainability initiative.
