Sustainable Design
|
|
Sustainable design extends the life our buildings while minimizing their impact on the environment. It encourages innovation and promotes "best practices".
It forces us to look at building as integrated applications rather than isolated products or functions. It requires us to look at sequence of installation to determine
impact on the work done by other trades. It promotes collaboration, education and accountability. Systems and services provided by Tremco designed to aid in
the development of sustainable design include the following and more:
|
-
Reflective Coatings - White topcoats within our Vulkem coating system meet Energy StarTM requirements for
emissivity and reflectivity, reducing the heat buildup on roof terraces and subsequently reducing HVAC needs.
-
Air & Moisture Management - ExoAirTM Air Barrier Systems
provide a totally integrated continuous barrier to control air infiltration/exfiltration, reducing HVAC requirements, increasing occupant comfort and helping to
extend the life of the structure. Used in conjunction with Proglaze ETA Engineered Transition Assembly, a durable transition is assured from the window or curtain
wall system to the wall assembly for proven long-term performance. Up to 40% of a building's energy consumption for heating or cooling is attributable to air leakage.
-
Complete, Compatible Glazing Systems - Tremco is the only supplier in the industry with a comprehensive line of glazing components including
glazing tapes, gaskets and setting blocks in addition to silicone sealants all formulated and tested to ensure compatibility and long-term adhesion, keeping
buildings airtight and reducing heating and cooling system requirements. This also allows flexibility in the use of window systems and curtain walls in building
design to allow more natural lighting of interior spaces.
-
COLA-Approved System for Waterproofing in Methane/Brownfield Applications - Waterproofing solutions designed to prevent infiltration of pollutants such
as methane, petroleum distillates and even fuel.
-
Comprehensive Sealant Utilization - In addition to utilization of sealants in joints and other primary applications, they should be used to seal all gaps
in duct work and insulating products in all fenestration openings and around HVAC units, conduits, etc., eliminating air leakage and additional energy consumption.
-
Water Conservation - Prefabricated drainage media can be used for gathering and reusing rainwater in non-potable applications such as watering gardens
and flushing toilets.
-
Guidance and Training - With comprehensive systems and solutions from below-grade, decks and above-grade waterproofing solutions to glazing systems,
firestopping systems and engineered transition assemblies as well as having a LEED-AP on staff and a team devoted to Building Envelope Solutions, we are
uniquely positioned to provide assistance to respond to sustainable design requirements.
