Successful Bomb Blast Testing in Socorro, New Mexico

CPFilms Inc., manufacturer of LLumar Magnum™ Protective Window Films made with DuPont Teijin Films, is pleased to announce the results of Blast Hazard Mitigation Testing conducted by Applied Research Associates on September 19th and 20th, 2004 in Socorro, New Mexico.

The impressive results achieved for LLumar Magnum™ security films as applied to both monolithic (single pane) and insulated glass (dual pane) window units are listed in the table below. The specimens listed in the table underwent testing in accordance with the US General Services Administration Standard Test Method for Glazing and Window Systems Subject to Dynamic Overpressure Loadings.  All specimens listed were subjected to blast pressures in excess of 4 psi with the impulse recorded between 28 and 30 psi-msec.

Both the clear and tinted versions of our multi-ply 8-mil products were tested with edge retention on both tempered and annealed glass.

The edge retention system used was a modified LLumar EdgeGrip™ utilizing the TREMCO Incorporated ProGlaze SSG Silicone:

This modified version of EdgeGrip™ is fully discussed in a newly published Technical Bulletin TBF-54, complete with diagrams and installation instructions. The main differences between Standard LLumar EdgeGrip and the modified wet glaze version used for these tests are as follows:

A) Structural Silicone used was TREMCO Incorporated Proglaze SSG Silicone.
B) The profile of the silicone as applied to the filmed glass/Frame measures 1/4 of an inch.
C) The gasket is completely removed and replaced by a rubber wedge. A technical bulletin on this modified wet glaze attachment system will be available on the technical website.

Additionally, since the construction of LLumar Magnum SCL SR PS8 (clear) is different than the tinted versions, it was important to test the tinted versions of the LLumar Magnum 8 mil products.  As such it should be noted that R20 SR PS8 represents the construction of all metallized/tinted versions of LLumar Magnum 8 mil products.  For example, N1050 SR PS8 can be substituted for R20 SR PS8.
